- Michael V. Gilson, 77 co-founder of the Gilson Bros. Foundry in Fredonia, died of a lingering illness on Friday, Nov. 10, at St. Alphonsus hospital, Port Washington. Mr. Gilson was born at Colmar-Berg, Luxembourg on July 18, 1884, and in 1901 came to Port Washington where he worked in a foundry. With his brother, John, he founded the Gilson Bros. firm in 1911, and served as treasurer and member of the board of directors of the firm which is internationally known in the concrete mixer field.
He was married on June 15, 1915 to Ann Frisch at Aurora, ILL. They settled at Fredonia where they continued to reside. Survivors are his wife; one son Jerome; one daughter-in-law, Mary; two grandchildren; one brother, John, all of Fredonia, and two sisters, Mrs Anna Duprel of Sturgis, South Dakota, and Mrs. Al (Josephine) Untereiner of Dimock, SD.
He was a member of St. Rose court, Catholic Order of Foresters, Fredonia. Funeral services were held at 9:45 a.m. tuesday, Nov. 14, from the Poole funeral home, Port Washington, to St. Rose of Lima Catholic church where Father Leonard Novotny, pastor, officiated at a solemn high Mass at 10:30. Interment was made at the parish cemetery.
