Lies Sr., 82, of La Porte, Ind. passed away on Sunday, April 10, 2011 at 7:45 p.m. at his home in La Porte with his family by his side. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, April 15, 2011 at 10 a.m. at Queen of All Saints Church with Rev. Kevin Huber officiating. Burial will follow in Saint Stanislaus Cemetery. Ralph was born January 1, 1929, in Aurora, Ill., to the late John and Catherine (Frisch) Lies. On October 21, 1950, in South Bend, Ind. he married Margaret T. Bilinski, who passed away on November 27, 2003. Surviving are eight children: Cynthia "Cindy" Bethay of La Porte, Susan (John) Angelos of La Porte, Ruth (Paul) Moon of Michigan City, Laura (Randy) Vogel of Naperville, Ill., Brenda (Martin) Deardorff of Belvedier, Ill., Gregg (Jordan) Lies of Woodland, Calif., Ralph J. "Bud" (Linda) Lies Jr. of La Porte, and John (Sue) Lies of Naperville, Ill. 22 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; one sister: Marilyn Gostola of South Bend, Ind.; and three brothers,Francis Lies, Paul Lies and Charles "Chuck" Lies all of South Bend, Ind. Preceding him in death is one sister, Isabelle Cortier; one brother, Anthony Lies.
Ralph was the retired co-owner and City's Pure Ice in La Porte
He was a member of Queen of All Saints Church where he was an usher. He was a proud veteran of the National Guard and was a member of John Franklin Miller American Post #37. He was a member and Past Governor at Moose Family Center #980 and was the recipient of the Fellowship Degree of Merit. He was also a member of the Polish Business and Professional Club. He loved playing euchre and other board and cards games with family and friends.
