33877 Pioneer Died after Family Re-Union in Honor of Birthday

Rollingstone, Minn., April 21.

Peter N. Kohner, Winona County pioneer, died at 5 p.m. Sunday at his home here of hert failure following a family reunion in honor of the 64th anniversary of his birth. The end came shortly after the guests had departed for their homes, while Mr. Kohner and his daughter, Miss Jeanette Kohner, who has been her father's constant companion and housekeeper since her mother's death in 1914, were having a luncheon.

While still at the table, Mr. Kohner complained of a slight pain over his heart and leaned forward in his chair, lapsing into unconsciousness. Miss Kohner called a neighbor and doctor, but Mr. Kohner, died shortly afterward without regaining consciousness. He had been in poor health for a bout a year, but was able to be up and around. He joined the guests in an afternoon of sociability, following a dinner at noon, and appeared as well as ever during the day's festivities.

Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday at 9 a.m. at Holy Trinity Catholic church. Rev. Fr. Anthony Hennekes will officiate, and interment will be made at the Rollingstone cemetery.

Mr. Kohner was born in Granville, Wis., in 1860, the oldest son of Mr. and Mrs. Nicholas Kohner. The family moved to Minnesota in 1863, and Mr. Kohner spent his boyhood on the farm near Bethany. In 1880 he was united in marriage to Miss Barbara Lehnertz of Rollingstone, after which he moved on a farm west of Bethany. Two of five children from this union survive. They are a son, Leon Kohner, residing on a farm near Bethany, and a daughter, Mrs. L. L. Kriedermacher of Minneiska Ridge. Three children died in infancy. Mrs. Kohner died in 1899. Several years later he married Miss Anna Speltz of Rollingstone. Two children were born to this union, the one one surviving being Miss Jeanette Kohner, at home. Two brothers, John N. Kohner (near Altura) and Henry Kohner (near Rollingstone) and two sisters, Mrs. John M Speltz and Mrs. Bertha Rietz, both of Rollingstone, survive him.
